What Is Cloud.gov?

Cloud.gov is a fully managed Platform as a Service (PaaS) run by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)’s Technology Transformation Services (TTS). It lets federal teams deploy applications in minutes without operating servers, patching operating systems, or wrestling with compliance paperwork.

Key Benefits

BenefitWhat it means for you
FedRAMP‑authorized securityInherit most NIST SP 800‑53 controls at the Moderate impact level (Package ID F1607067912).
Developer velocityDeploy with one CLI command (cf push) and scale instantly without having to wait on ticket queues.
Self‑service environmentsCreate isolated “spaces” for dev, test, and prod whenever you need them.
Cost‑recovery pricingPay only for actual resource usage with no hidden fees or vendor lock‑in.
Open‑source transparencyWe publish our source code, roadmaps, and project status whenever possible to build trust and encourage community collaboration.

Mission & Governance

Cloud.gov is operated by a government team. Revenues from agency usage fund operations, ensuring long‑term stability without relying on annual appropriations. Decisions prioritize public‑sector needs, federal policies, and security best practices.

Compliance & Security Snapshot

  • FedRAMP Moderate Authorization: Inherit about 60 % of NIST SP 800‑53 controls automatically.
  • Platform Patching & Scanning: Cloud.gov patches and scans the platform infrastructure.
  • Annual Independent Assessments: Cloud.gov runs third‑party platform assessments each year. Results feed our FedRAMP package, so you inherit every control they cover.
  • Customer Responsibility: Patch, scan, and document your applications and any shared or customer‑owned controls in your System Security Plan (SSP).

First‑Week Checklist

  1. Sign up with your .gov, .mil, or .fed.us email and receive a free sandbox space.
